Understanding Your Google Results: What People Actually See When They Search Your Name

From the Personal Reputation Management team · Last updated October 19, 2026

Short answer: Your Google results are a personalized, location-aware mix of profiles, employer and directory pages, news, people-search listings, and namesakes — not a fixed report card. Understanding them means running the searches a stranger would run, sorting every result honestly, and keeping a dated record. We're still writing this series to teach that mapping in depth; its main guide below is already fully published.

Why this matters for ordinary people

You cannot improve a picture you have not seen, and most people have only ever glanced at their first result. This series will build the habit of seeing your results the way an employer, client, or landlord does — variants, images, and page two included.

What this series will cover

How name searches are assembled, why two people searching your name see different results, how to sort yours from a namesake's, what people-search listings are doing in your results, and how to keep a record that makes change visible. Its main guide, “What does Google say about me?”, is fully written and linked below; the remaining guides are listed below and still being written.

Where to start today

Start with the published main guide below, then use the searches above to map your own starting point today — this guide is the whole recipe, free to read. When you're a customer, our audit does this mapping systematically with licensed data and your own confirmations.

Guides in this series

Honest by design — including what we don't do

What we do

  • Show you what people find, result by result, and ask you to confirm what's actually you.
  • Build your personal site from facts you approved — nothing is published without your approval.
  • Use licensed search data and official tools only. No scraping.
  • Keep watch weekly, in plain English, with one clear next step.

What we never do

  • No fake reviews, fake profiles, fake news, or bought links.
  • No bogus takedown notices, and no promises to remove results or guarantee rankings.
  • No searching for anyone but you, and we never sell your data.
